What’s the Plan?

WMS is on a mission – to find one house that is currently uninhabitable and restore it to a “move-in” condition. On previous relief trips to the New Orleans area, we were only able to do “bits and pieces” of restorative work on several houses. This time, our focus will be on completely restoring one house. In the spring of ’08, we’ll be taking time off from our current projects to travel to the greater New Orleans area. Once there, we’ll be working day and night on this house ‘till it’s a home! The goal is to complete the project in eight to ten weeks. It’s a pretty simple idea that will have a long lasting impact on both the homeowners and those willing to contribute to this project. Think of it as a two-pronged attack: to rebuild a home and at the same time show God’s unfailing love for His people. And we need your support in both efforts.

Who’s On Board?

Currently, we have two organizations partnering with WMS to make this project happen. My church, Creekside Covenant in Redmond, WA, is providing help with planning and volunteers and is processing all the donations for the project. Creekside has sent three teams to New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina and is excited to be a part of the rebuilding. In January 2007, they worked through Mercy Response (www.mercyresponse.com), a ministry of Vineyard USA. In July 2007, Mercy Response started to transition from gutting houses to rebuilding. Because of their knowledge of the area and experience in rebuilding, we approached them about partnering with WMS. Besides their expertise, they’ll be providing housing, meals, volunteers, etc. It’s so great to see how God has provided perfectly for the needs of this project.

How Can I Help?

You can support this project in several ways. First, we need to raise funds to pay for the needed materials, estimated to be approximately $30,000. This includes construction materials (like 2x4s, drywall, exterior siding, etc) as well as finished products (kitchen cabinets, a hot water heater, a bathtub). Please consider generously supporting this project (details below).

Secondly, we’d love to have you come down and help with the construction effort. No experience is required, as there will be plenty of work for everyone! For the less adventuresome, you can still be of great help by sharing this message with your family and friends. Please send them a note directing them to this website: www.wmsconstruction.org/onehome.

Finally, please pray for all those involved in making this project become a reality. Pray for the selection of the family and home. Pray for all the details – fundraising, volunteers, timing, inspections, etc. Pray for God’s protection and provision for those who are volunteering and their families. And most importantly, pray that God would be honored by all we do.

Pledging

You can make a financial contribution to the rebuilding effort by directing your contributions to specific items in the home, such as a kitchen garbage disposal and bedroom flooring. In this manner, you’ll know exactly where and how you’re making an impact. We’ll also need general construction materials (such as insulation, wiring and plumbing supplies, etc.) that are non-specific to a particular location in the home. Either way, please click on the word “Pledge” and then make your selections.

Please note that you are not making a financial transaction at this time. Instead, you are making a pledge to provide funds to purchase your selected items. You will be asked to provide your name and mailing address only. We’ll then send you a copy of your order along with a stamped, addressed return envelope. All you do is remit your check and pop it in the post – that’s it! Or, you can bypass this process entirely and simply send a check directly to “Creekside Covenant Church” with WMS-One Home in the Memo field. The address is 8310 154th Ave NE, Redmond WA 98052. And as your contribution is directly providing hope to a family that needs it most, it is tax deductible. On behalf of WMS and its partners, thank you for supporting this project. May God bless you and your family!
